Steps and Procedures:
How to purchase and build a Bamboo Home.
1.) Contact Bamboo Works to set up an appointment with a sales rep. In order for
the sales rep to be the most helpful to you, be prepared to discuss why you are
interested in a bamboo house, where you want to build one, and what you plan on
using it for i.e. vacation rental, primary dwelling, guest cottage. Make a list
of questions that you would like answered.
2.) Tour a bamboo home in your area. We have model bamboo homes that you can
tour in Maui, Hawaii. The manufacture will reimburse you for your round trip
airfare (up to $400) to visit one of the model homes if you purchase a home. You
will most likely tour the home with your sales rep or one of our affiliate
representatives . Bring your camera, questions, and ideas of what you would do
with the home on your property.
3.) Meet with a sales rep and decide what you want. There are many options
available on each home, such as an extended porch and deck, and bamboo cabinets.
It is important to go over these options carefully for your order. This is also
the time to get clear about what you, the owner/builder, are responsible for and
how much it will cost you, such as the platform, roofing material, electrical,
plumbing, labor, and permits.
4.) Sign a contract and provide a 50% deposit. The contract will state clearly
what you are purchasing, the costs, and the estimated time of arrival of your
house. You provide the manufacturer with a check for 50% of the total cost of
the house.
5.) The house will begin being built in Vietnam. Once we receive the deposit we
begin building the house at the factory in Vietnam. The timeline for
construction depends on the number of orders, the season of the year, and the
supply of bamboo poles at the factory. After the house is built it is then
disassembled and put into a container and shipped by boat to the desired
location. Shipping usually takes one month. In general, you can expect to have
your house delivered to your location with in 3 months of your order.
6.) Get the drawings from us and get a building permit. Every house or building
must have a building permit from the local jurisdiction. We will assist you in
this process. Your first step is to obtain the building blueprints from us to be
signed by an architect and an engineer. You must then take these to your local
building permit office. There is a fee for the prints and for the review by the
architect and engineer. You will need to provide building site and local
building code information. There is a fee for a building permit. The fee and the
amount of time required to obtain a building permit varies with each
jurisdiction.
7.) Build the platform with electrical and plumbing access. You can hire someone
to do this or do it yourself. You will need permits for the plumbing and
electrical, including a sewage system. We can provide the necessary blueprints
for the platform as well as a material list with estimated costs.
8.) The house is delivered to the port near you.
9.) Pay the remaining balance on the house. When the house is delivered to your
port you are responsible for paying the remaining 50% of the cost of the house.
10.) Transport the house from the port to the construction site. You are
responsible for transporting the container to your house or unloading the house
in the container onto a truck (rental truck) and transporting it to your
property. (4 strong men can do this easily in one to two trips depending on the
size of your truck.)
11.) Assemble the house using your construction crew or ours. This will take
about 2 to 3 days. If you use your own crew, it would be best to have one of our
consultants give you some valuable guidance.
12.) Put on the roofing material, install doors and windows, electrical,
plumbing, insulation, seal up joints, install flooring, appliances and furniture.
It is important to get the roofing material on quickly so that the bamboo does
not get wet. Then put the doors and window in. Electrical and plumbing is next.
Then seal up the cracks and joints with insulation and caulk to make your house
is airtight and bug proof. The finished flooring is close to the last thing that
you put down. A bamboo floor will add tremendously to the luxuriousness of the
décor.
13.) Get inspections for plumbing and electrical as soon as you complete them.
14.) Have the house inspected for final compliance. We want to make sure every
home is built to perfection and every customer is completely satisfied.
15.) Move in. Yippee!!!
